Our Story

I learnt to knit when I was a child, and then I grew up and forgot all about it.

Over the years, I dabbled in other crafts. I've always enjoyed arts and crafts, and running and reading. I really enjoy colour and creation. I believe that the opportunity, ability and desire to create is truly a gift. It's therapy. Artists and crafters understand this.

Anyways, many years had gone by. My kids were growing up. Work was stressful, and not as enjoyable. And parents were getting older. 

I've been a runner for 20 years. It's how I managed my stress, but a few years ago, it just wasn't cutting it anymore. And that was when I rediscovered knitting and what a discovery it was indeed!

The knitting world had changed since I was a child! There was Ravelry! There was YouTube for self-help! And oooh, there was hand-dyed yarn! 

I became obsessed. The colours, the possibilities. And one day, I did some research and bought some supplies and I dyed some really cute yarn! 

One possibility was, what if I created my own little yarn-dyeing business? I kept the idea in my back pocket, dyed some more yarn but didn't really do anything about it until recently.

In 2025, my auntie passed away. She had raised me and I loved her like a mother. This loss ultimately altered my perspective on life.

I decided that I did not want to live and die without having given my dream a chance.

So, here we are. I'd like to welcome you to vanille & violette. A creative hub for colour and possibility that will transform your knitting and crocheting dreams into realities! This is a safe space where all are welcome!
